With commercials bombarding us left and right to spend, spend, spend (Holiday season) to the Fashion industry coming out it seems with endless trends, you may feel obligated to give in and spend money that you have no business spending!! I get it because I struggle with saving money as well and loooove shopping. These 5 ways to save money on clothes has helped me over the past 6 months and I will be sharing them with you today!!!!

Tip #1: Changing your perception or mental mindset on clothing. Whaat??? You are probably wondering, Janel, what does that have to do with saving money?? Because your heart and mind drives and influences your actions. If you always shop when your depressed or you shop on impulse, do you think you are going to be able to keep money in the bank??? I don’t think so. It’s one of the hardest and most important things to change on this list. Because if you can’t practice discipline or self control when your shopping you will always over spend. Take the time to really evaluate on making the purchase on that bright green track suit. 🙂
Tip #2: Take inventory of your closet!!!! That means take the time to go through all corners and crevices of your closet to see what you own. Don’t you hate it when you go out shopping, bring home your purchase and as you go to place it in your closet, you realize you already have that same or similar piece??? Awww!!! (It’s happened to me) What a waste of money!! Taking the time to look through your clothes and write down what you own allows you to have a full picture of what your style is and avoid duplicates.

Tip # 3: Have a list when you go shopping!!!! This is not the time to wander aimlessly up and down the aisles. After you have assessed your closet, write down what you NEED, NOT WANT. Did I make myself clear?? Having a list will keep you focused and efficient when shopping. I am a firm believer in buying basics. They are necessary because they build a solid foundation for your wardrobe, and allow you to create more outfits saving you more MONEY!!!Â
Money Saving tip: Keep your list on your phone, that way you always have it with you at all times!!! And you make necessary updates and deletions as needed.
Tip #4 Try to limit the amount of times you shop a year!!!! Stay disciplined and patient and wait for stores to have there semi-annual sales, or at the end of the season’s sales. You will be able to stretch your dollars a lot more during these times, because the discounted items usually have an additional percentage on top of it. Saving you more money.
Tip #5 Last but not least… Shop your own closet!!! This tip is my favorite because I use it all the time!!! What’s great about exploring and creating outfits within your own closet is: A. It’s your own closet so no money needed. Duh!!! B. It gives you the opportunity to explore and get creative with your clothes!! Who knew you could create 5 outfits with that one skirt!!! Shopping your closet allows you see the endless possibilities you didn’t see before!!
