14 Nov Wardrobe Basic: A-Line Skirt
I am 5″7 and one of the biggest issues I have is finding shorts and skirts that are not too short to the point where my booty is hanging out!! (Tall girl problems!!) Can I get an Amen from my tall sisters!! So I discovered recently the beauty of an A-line skirt, which is not only flattering for my tall sisters but flattering on all body types!! What makes an A-line skirt a great addition to your wardrobe?? Well:
- It is fitted at the waist and gradually widens over the hip, giving the impression of a capital “A”
- This is important because it skims over any imperfections you may have in the hip area making for a more flattering silhouette
- It’s a great option when you have casual or dressier occasions than reaching for those dress pants or dress!!!
- Depending on your style they come in different textures such as suede, jean etc!!
- It’s the mature version of the mini skirt, allowing you to expose your beautiful legs without being too risky!!!
- The A-line skirt does come in different lengths: some are longer than the one styled above, some are gathered or more loose fitting, it really depends on your body type and what you feel comfortable in. But what’s great is there are different options of this skirt.
- This piece can be worn all year around. Easy to transition to fall or colder months by wearing tights under them and boots or in the summer wearing sandals and a loose-fitting shirt.
I went for this beautiful camel color and suede A-line skirt from my favorite store!!! You guessed it, Kohls!! (Suede is trending right now) and paired it with a classic turtleneck. I chose these suede heeled boots, which totally give the look that classic 70’s vibe, but still so chic!! Who says turtlenecks are out of style!! This fringe bag, which was a recent purchase from express (on sale), adds another element and great detail to the outfit. You notice I did not pair all three elements together, like the fringe bag, sunglasses, vest. For me, that would be too much, but hey that’s the beauty of personal style. To each his or her own interpretation!! The black and camel combo is a classic color combination.

- Adding accessories like these fun mirrored cat-eye sunglasses allows you to inject your personality into an outfit in a subtle way. I have been searching for a pair of mirrored frames for a while. I saw this pair at Forever 21 and fell in love with the cat- eye shape. They were speaking to me and I had to purchase them!
- Vests are perfect layering pieces for the fall. I decided to go for this faux fur vest to add texture to the outfit.
- Do not be afraid to add textures to your outfits such as leather, suede or faux fur. They add depth and interest.
- And try mixing textures together as I did above with the suede and the faux fur it gives a nice contrast.
- If you are intimated by the faux fur vest, try to ease into it by trying a small faux fur scarf in a neutral color, that way you can wear it more than once and it won’t dominate your outfit.
So go ahead and pick up an A-line skirt. It’s the classic and chic piece that won’t let you down!
